I'm willing at this point to concede that there is a slight difference between PLEX and Aurum. But I have not changed my mind about PLEX being pay-to-win. It is most certainly play-to-win.
Aurum changes the game in only one dimension: who gets paid.
PLEX pays other people in game for their effort to do whatever it takes to get the ISK they use to buy PLEX.
Aurum pays CCP . . . or at least has the potential to pay CCP. We don't really know how many people are buying GTC and exchanging them for PLEX and converting them to AUR at the moment.
PLEX to ISK is paying the EVE players to win.
If CCP introduces a game advantage, PLEX to AUR is paying CCP to win.
That's the only real difference.
The people up in arms about this non-existent stuff are simply greedy. And somehow, they are angry because CCP appears to be greedy. This makes no sense to me.
I buy legitimate GTC, convert them to PLEX, and sell them on the market because I don't have enough real life spare time to grind for really nice ships. But I want to be able to fly them and use them to kill people. That's paying to win. Yes. I do it.
And everyone seems to be okay with that.
What if I skip that and just essentially pay CCP for some nice stuff to kill you with? Nothing has changed in principle. The only thing that has changed is who is getting paid. CCP instead of you.
So who is greedy here? Is it CCP? Or is it you? The bottom line is that without non-vanity items, you make more money in-game. With those items, CCP makes more money in real life. Hmm. Let me guess what anyone with half an ounce of business sense would do . . . .
I propose that we change the nature of all the ranting around here. Instead of "CCP is a greedy game-breaking game-maker and I hate it!!!!"
I propose this alternative, "Industrial toons hate EVE and want to rob CCP from vital revenue streams to further their own monopoly on production interests, even if it kills the game for everyone else!!!"
So basically, screw all you people spouting player economy. You're disingenuous, and you're just sitting around spamming forums and disrupting everyone else's play when you feel like it because you are afraid CCP is going to take a small cut of your industrial pie.
If, and it's still a big "if," CCP introduced non-vanity, it wouldn't be the first time a big money-making machine was nerfed in this game. Nerfs happen. Maybe it's time for an indy nerf.
